A prism bar set is an ophthalmic diagnostic tool used to measure and manage eye deviations, such as strabismus. Unlike individual loose prisms, a prism bar contains a series of prisms of increasing power mounted sequentially on a single strip. There are both horizontal and vertical prism bars. They are used by placing the bar in front of one eye and moving it until the patient reports that the double image has become single. This allows for a quick and efficient assessment of larger-angle deviations, as well as for evaluating vergence facility during vision therapy.
